题目:Rare earths and magnets for quantum technologies

摘要:Rare earth ion dopants in cryogenic crystalline hosts offer a unique platform for quantum technologies, combining long coherence times with the potential for integration into scalable architectures. Their shielded 4f electrons enable narrow optical and spin transitions even in solid-state environments, making them promising candidates for quantum memories, transducers, and processors. After a general introduction I will focus on microwave to optical transduction and our recent work highlight the potential of rare earths in magnetic host crystals. In particular, we have shown that despite the very high densities of spins extremely coherence times are potentially possible. We also have observed strong coherent coupling between rare earths and collective magnetic resonance modes (magnons) of the host crystal. This has exciting implications for microwave optical transduction of quantum signals.

简历:Jevon Longdell现任新西兰奥塔哥大学物理系教授,是稀土掺杂晶体在量子信息技术应用领域的国际知名专家他于2002年获奥克兰大学硕士学位,2005年于澳大利亚国立大学获得博士学位。在稀土离子的量子信息应用上取得了多项原创性的成果:他与Matthew Sellars等人共同提出了ZEFOZ技术,在掺铕晶体中实现了国际最长的自旋相干时间;率先开展了微波至光学波段的量子转换研究,并首次在稀土掺杂晶体中实现了量子相位门的逻辑操作。近年来,他证明在富电子自旋的铁磁材料中亦可实现长时相干存储,再次拓展了该领域的研究边界。Longdell教授目前还担任新西兰量子研究中心的首席科学家(the Leader of Quantum Technologies Aotearoa),以及The Dodd-Walls Center的主要研究员(PI
